Review

This, my friends, was a super fun game. It's actually currently a "free" offering on PSN as well. Wherever you play this though, you are in for a treat. You are the nameless, silent "The Player" and are playing against Brock Samson, Claptrap, Sam and Max, and Ash Williams. The dialogue is pretty witty and at times hilarious as the other players talk amongst themselves, have little jokes and jabs they throw your way, etc...the table is hosted by GLaDOS, who is also the dealer, and who interjects passive aggressive hostile jabs at all the players throughout the game. Actually, GLaDOS's dialogue is effective at representing the subtle menace for which it is known.

There are a few options in the game that enhance the experience, most notably the ability to upgrade your chips, felt, and cards to the settings from all the other characters origin worlds/stories, which outside of changing the appearance of the room/table/et al, also unlockas new dialogue between the characters. You can also buy drinks for the other characters, delivered by your favorite bartender, Moxxi, in whose bar you are actually playing poker in. The drinks cause the other players to be more obvious in their tells.

Speaking of tells, each of the players has them. Brock is a hothead and will often bet without a real hand. Ash plays more like Gus Hansen, Claptrap plays a solid game overall, and Sam almost always folds unless he has a real hand.

That's pretty much it. Outside of the setting, dialogue, and some challenges which allow you to unlock new skins and such for Borderlands 2 and Team Fortress 2, it's pretty much a straightforward Hold 'em and Omaha game. So, if you like poker and video games, you will probably enjoy this. If not, look elsewhere for sure.

Review

So I have to make this review quick.

Payday is a fantasy for those of us gamers that have hankered for the chance to play roles as the anti heroes, and feel good doing it. Who hasn't had that little voice in the back of their head when going through the drive through at the local bank that wants to pull a Heat style heist and escape with the Payday, well this game scratches that itch. Payday 2 is a much improved version of the first game, allowing for customization of the skills, masks, and weapons you want to use to make the ultimate criminal to fit your play style. The missions vary from a simple smash and grab store heist to multiple day events from meth houses to a dark highway.

The gunplay is tight, the weapons are varied, and every mission can either be ninja'd with professional finesse where nobody knows you are there, or you can tank up with shotguns and heavy armor and take the place by storm. The limit to what and how you take down your scores depends soley on your crew and your ability to work together. Overkill has taken great time and effort to work with and implement requests from players and forums to make the game cater to the fans. They generally care about the fans, take pride in making characters that are endearing and fun, and to keep you coming back for more.

You get a safe house to practice your weapons and skills in action before taking them to the field, and it doubles as a personal hangout complete with rooms for showing off your collections and armory, as well as your own vault with cash that stacks up and keeps track on a big screen to flaunt your successes to others. Every mission, while the same in scope, varies and changes each time you play it, and unless playing with the same crew over and over, your approach will too as different heisters join with different skill sets.

The price for the game is half of normal AAA titles out, and is worth every penny. Steam support was and continues to be top notch, and this is a title I will be dumping a lot of time into. If you take Heat, Left 4 Dead, and a Hollywood approach to an interactive first person experience, and think that sounds like a good time, you should have no qualms about picking up this great title.

I played for 4 hours after it went live this morning, and had about 50 hours into the Beta, minus a few hiccups, had a great launch so far. There are some hit box issues with a few weapons, some weird spawns and glitches yet, but nothing anywhere near serious that I encountered, and Overkill is actively finding, balancing, and eliminating things as they come to light. All in all, I think you should glove up, lock and load, and put your mask on. To quote Wolf, "Let's get rich."

Now if you'll excuse me, my escape van is waiting... and it is Payday.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

Review

Pros:

* Combat system was fun to use, although I did run into difficulty using enemies as human shields. It would not always work as it should which was incredibly frustrating.

* Town graphics / rendering were upgraded from previous versions

* It's Assassin's Creed

* Connor is a bada$$ when the combat system is working properly and that is fun to see and do.

* Desmond's missions. Awesome. Finally got to see him in live action on missions which was great.

* Weather. The added rain affects were awesome. Wish these could've existed in Italy with some of those scenes -- would've looked great.

* Climbing animation was significantly upgraded which was great!

* They developed the game in DX11 for the PC. Very happy to see them utilize the vastly superior PC hardware instead of just direct-porting the inferior console version to PC as they have in the past. I have played the game on XBOX as well, and it is no comparison. To use a common car comparison -- playing this game on the XBOX compared to the PC is like driving a Ford Taurus (XBOX) compared to a Corvette (PC).

* "Tomb Missions". These are now replaced with what are called "Captain Kidd" missions. It is basically a mystery you are trying to solve which is actually pretty cool. You get some great visuals in these missions that look AWESOME on the PC in DX11.

* Naval Missions. As part of your Assassin career, you also Captain "The Aquila", a warship you revive during the game and go out and perform various tasks (rescues, escorts, attacks, etc.). These missions are pretty fun.

Cons:

* Music. The Music is a significant downgrade from games like AC2 / ACB. The magic the music created in those games is non-existent in this one.

* Story. Very scattered and inconsistent story plot. Also the story overall was way too....sad. At every turn you're being betrayed, having family members / friends killed or being forced to kill them yourself. Bad ending both for Connor and for Desmond. Very anti-climactic. I hate the direction they are going with the series as far as the storyline. Also the way the start of each sequence forces you into a cutscene absolutely kills the chronology of the side missions and when they should be completed. Need a far better tie-in. Should have had the primary sequences just be placed on the map so you could start the next sequence when ready as far as the main storyline and have a chance to complete side missions before seeing an urgent cut scene that made you feel like you had to rush off to finish the primary story.

* Connor's personality. They made him into a robot. He has very little emotional development throughout the game. Some people say he seems "dumb". I don't want to say that, but he definitely has no personality, making it tough to get attached to him the way we did with Ezio.

* Hunting / Frontier: Waste of development time. Added nothing in my opinion.

* Mission Design. There were a number of missions that were just AWFUL as far as how they were designed. You had to perform certain tasks in a very precise manner or you would desynchronize. The other AC games provided freedom in how you wanted to complete a mission, and that's something this game missed in many instances.

* Side Quests. I miss the Courtesan, Thief, and Assassination contracts from previous games. This game had pathetic Assassination contracts (I mean really, there is literally zero backstory to them to tie in to the game), and the Liberation missions were only mediocre at best.

* Limited relationships. Connor is 27 by the time the game ends and has no female counterpart. This sort of ties in to the "robot" reference I made before. No guy is 27 and has zero romantic interest. Another part of the Ezio storyline that was badly missed here.

* The ending. Both Desmond & Connor's endings are so anticlimactic. As a Desmond fan, I *hate* how they have chosen to "close" his storyline. I don't want to give away the specifics, so I'll leave it at that. Connor's ending is also very open-ended, and so far, I'm just not attached to him at all as a character -- I am really hoping they can do a better job of developing his personality in future games, because he doesn't have one currently.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with the game. Given how much it was super-hyped leading up to its release, it's been pretty mixed in terms of overall reception from the fanbase. AC is an absolutely epic game series. In 30 years of gaming, it is probably #1 or #2 on my list of best game-series. I really hope the crew that did AC2 and ACB are recalled to work on future games because those guys and gals just "got it" and knew how to make a magical game. Really hoping we head to France next for the French Revolution. The backstory has been created with Lafayette meeting Connor.

You might be wondering why I gave it 2/5 eggs since I still had a good list of pros. The ending of the game is so epically bad (Desmond specifically) along with how bad the storyline flows that it's just not a good game. There are also numerous bugs in the game that should have easily been fixed before release. My hope is that the next game (the DLC is on its way, maybe it will help also) will reinvigorate the series without destroying everything that it has been able to stand for thus far because this series is frickin awesome overall.

Performance -- I've read that ATI / AMD video cards are having performance problems with the game currently. Given that I'm running a GTX 680 and NVidia released a beta driver a few days before AC3's release, I have had flawless game performance, so for you ATI guys, I'm hopeful they will release a hotfix / beta driver for you shortly so you can play the game. Performance for me was great though -- 1920x1200 with every setting maxed out with the exception of antialiasing, which I dialed down a bit.

Now we see what happens when Assassin’s Creed and Grand Theft Auto hook up for a one-night stand: they give birth to a bastard child known as Watch Dogs.

In Watch Dogs, from AC maker Ubisoft, you play a hacker whose sister, and her family, were murdered by some mysterious bad guy as a way of getting said hacker to back off an not interfere with their Deep and Sinister Plans ™. Left unexplained is why they didn’t just kill the hacker, but games like this aren’t generally known for their lack of plot holes (hello, entire Assassin’s Creed franchise!).

The game play is smooth, and familiar to anyone who has played Assassin’s Creed or GTA. There’s some slight variation in the controls and, sadly, you don’t seem to be able to climb up every building in creation, then drop down and assassinate them, but you can’t have everything. What you do get to do instead is go around and hack into everything. And I mean everything. Soda machines, power grids, traffic lights, possibly toasters…if it has a computer chip and an internet connection, you can apparently hack it.

Now this can cause some problems for you. I tried hacking traffic lights and the like while in a high-speed police chase. This did not end well for me, nor for the four or five people I ran over in the process (sorry, guys!). I’m also unclear why causing a power outage in a baseball stadium causes light figures to explode and power outlets to spark. Apparently this universe’s version of Chicago managed to develop pretty much all the same technology that we have, except, alas, for the circuit breaker.

But speaking of Chicago, the whole city seems to be lovingly rendered for your amusement, and it looks just gorgeous. The whole game does, really. On my PC (which is what I’ve been using to play), the graphics are just amazing! Textures on cloth, reflections, etc, everything looks wonderful.

On the other hand, the sound. I have very good speakers. I have them turned up all the way. I have the volume on my PC turned up all the way. I could barely hear any of the dialogue. I went in and adjusted the sound settings in the game, and there was no real change. So I think we might have a glitch. Hopefully this will be fixed via a patch sometime soon.

That minor complaint aside, this really is an impressive game, and I look forward to logging many, many more hours.

It was very hard not to give five stars, but the main menu interface leaves quite a bit to be desired.

First of all, this is all going to be managed through Steam. When you buy the pack Amazon will give you a steam code. Enter it and it will download the Sega Interface. It will appear as though it's only given you one game: Toejam and Earl. DON'T PANIC - CHECK YOUR E-MAIL.

In your e-mail you'll have received an order summary from Amazon with all the rest of your Steam codes - twelve total. Some are for individual games (like Toejam and Earl, Sonic 3, etc...) while some are for collections. The nice thing is that Steam packages them all together into "SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics", one entry in your Steam Library, so it's not clogged up with 48 different sega games.

Or it would be nice. You'd better keep track, because going to your Sega entry doesn't give a list of the games you already have. And here's where the interface really takes a dive: you only have to launch one program, the Sega Collection, to access your Sega games. So far so good. But you cannot simply get a list of your games to pick from - you have to scroll through all of them. Every time. And they're not in alphabetical order either... some are, but the rest are in "sega pack" order. The program does give you some basic configurability options - you can configure two controllers, adjust the default resolutions... basic stuff but good enough.

I had a lot of fun playing some old-school games though, when I should have been doing research. Well worth but but it really warrants a warning about the interface. If you buy more Steam-managed Sega Games in the future, they will be folded into your package. For instance, this deal comes with Classics Packs 1 through 4. But if you like, you can go on to buy Classics Pack 5 to get Phantasy Star IV, Dynamite Headdy, and some other gems added to your collection.

A lot of fun and an awesome deal, but one star off for the navigation interface.

Two things first:

1) if you play this on PC, do not forget to find DSFix, an open-source fan-made patch to improve the game's visuals. This will remove almost all complaints about the game.

2) get a controller. I recommend a Wired (USB) Xbox 360 Gamepad, available here on Amazon for ~$20.

Now to the game:

Dark Souls is amazing. That's simply a fact. You will want to quit after your first play session. Don't. Take a break, maybe a night off, and then come back to it with a level head. The game is designed to have many different solutions to any give problem, but if you keep trying the only one you immediately see, and failing, you'll be very mad very fast. So, don't do that. Pace yourself. Look for alternative paths. Try different approaches (sneaking, sprinting, rolling, jumping, shield up, 2H weapon at the ready...). Whatever you do, don't give up after only a few hours. The real payoff in this game is your own successes.

The stress of the boss fights and PvP gives a stronger rush than any other game I've encountered in nearly a decade. It is so satisfying to win a challenging (and generally *fair*) fight.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone. While it is unforgiving, at its core, the game is very consistent, so not too difficult. It will teach you to practice. It will show you the sweet rewards from perseverance.

Don't give up and go hollow. You have this chance to show the world that your soul is yours, and that you are alive.

And just for the heck of it, let's throw in Sonic 4 Episodes I & II, plus Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing: Transformed. (Not worth buying separately in my opinion, but still decent games that add some value to this bundle.) CUSTOMER REVIEW

Review

NOTE: My review is two stars because of Syndicate. That game is relatively fun, and has some nice Deus Ex elements in it, but that doesn't save it from bad movement controls, terrible AI, and a completely out of control Bloom effect that permeates the entire game. It is seriously atrocious, and I can't play it for more than 30 minutes to an hour because of how annoying it is. I gave it two stars because even though it can be fun, the bad far outweighs the good.

That being said, I gave the two stars to Syndicate. If I could I would give The Saboteur a -5, or a zero at the very least. Please read on for the reasons.

The Saboteur simply will not run on any of my Windows PCs. I posted in the EA help forums regarding this issue, and a TON of other people have the same exact problem.... or worse. The game seems to be littered with bugs. And the "support" staff at the EA help-desk forums was not only clueless, but condescending and rude in most cases. They repeatedly used the excuse that it was an old game meant to run on old hardware, and we shouldn't expect it to work with modern operating systems. One of them suggested that we build an entire PC out of old parts in order to run this old game! There is a well known and documented bug that was never fixed that made the game crash (or not load at all) on PCs with 4 or more cores, including Hyper-Threading. Again, it was "this game is old, blah blah blah", and they suggested that you turn off all but one core on your CPU, and then go into your BIOS and turn off Hyper-Threading. That is just a ridiculous "fix" to a problem that a lot of people have. I have a 6-core i7 CPU, so I would essentially have to turn off 11 cores just to play the game.

Here's the kicker....

In the official suggested system configuration:

Processor: Quad Core running at 2.8 GHz or equivalent

Memory : 2 GB RAM (Windows XP) or 3 GB RAM (Windows Vista/7)

So for one, they say specifically to use a quad-core CPU. They say specifically to use 2 GB ram if you are on on Windows 7. Yet the two biggest bugs are people who have a quad-core CPU, and that have Windows 7 (or 8).

Another funny thing is, this game was released in December of 2009. Windows 7 was released retail in July of 2009. So tell me again, why doesn't this game work on Windows 7? Even in compatibility mode it won't work, even though that is the instructions I got from the "official" reply I got from the customer support email I sent.

So the "old game" is barely years old, which makes the suggestion to "build an old PC" to run this "old" game even more preposterous. Yes, I said preposterous. Deal with it. :-P

I guess if you are running Windows XP on a Core2Duo or an i3 or something, go for it. The game got good reviews, looks awesome, and I bet it is really fun.

I wouldn't know.

When you see words "New Order" you probably know what's behind it.

The game takes you back in 1060s, when you have to fight Nazis after they won WW II. Don't you want to jump into the game and change it already?

Lots of FPS veterans and new players will enjoy this fast paced first person shooter.

With that being said, one probably should set right expectations for this game:

- if you want to jump into non-stop "shoot them all" action, you will love this game so much that you will want to play it over and over.

- but if you want some serious main story line (other than shoot them all), you might not enjoy this game as much.

One big "negative", you have to pick up ammo manually. However, when you think about it, it might not be as negative as you think, just more realistic. :)

CUSTOMER REVIEW

Review

I played through the original Diablo 3 game and just finished the expansion. The original game was riddled with problems and many people were angry about it. Over the last year or so, Blizzard did a great job LISTENING to the people that play Diablo 3 and the game has completely turned around since then!

Things fixed in original Diablo 3 game through patches (you paid for these when you bought the ORIGINAL game, not the expansion):

-No more auction house!

-Items drop for your character (stats you need)

-Improved legendary drop

-Legendary drops have fun attributes

-Increased customization ability (no more being stuck to one build for your class)

-Reduced reliance on magic find to get legendary drops

These changes were all great and the gameplay is vastly improved with them.

However, that is all with the original game.

For the expansion, you get:

-1 new playable class (crusader)

-1 new act for the campaign (act 5) including 3 new boss fights that is roughly 2-3 hours depending on difficulty and how thorough you are

-Adventure mode

-New skills for your character (some of which are very fun)

-New loot

So when you separate the changes for the old game versus the new stuff from the expansion, it looks a little different. In terms of amount of content, the expansion seems more like a small DLC package than an actual expansion.

Story: 2/5

It's good but it is "few and far between." You get fed a tiny piece of story now and then, but most of the time you spend grinding on the gigantic maps trying to get to the next area. What little story there was, it was interesting. But there was not nearly enough to denote a 40 dollar price tag. In short, 3 new boss fights and just a bunch of grinding in between. They threw in some mini side quests but I don't think they add much to the game. They even reused some of the old models for monsters from the original game. The campaign just felt rushed in terms of story and more created for long term grinding playability. Would not recommend for the story.

Gameplay: 4/5

It's much better, but once again, it was better in the original game too after all the updates! The new act is full of big levels and lots of monsters, so if you love running around, killing things, and finding loot, it's perfect. It can be too big and a bit monotonous at times though for the average gamer.

Adventure mode is just trying to give you a carrot on a stick to replay old quests and give you a goal while you grind. It is nothing special. You just might get a prize for doing the same thing you were going to do anyways.

TL;DR - A 20 dollar game with a 40 dollar price tag. The new content is minimal, considering you get 1/4 of the story content of the original game for 2/3 the price of it. This expansion is definitely set up for the hardcore fans who just like to run around killing things aimlessly and hoping for loot. If you are playing it for any other reason than that (STORY), you can skip this title until it's cheaper.

I bought these yesterday and I come from Astro A40's. The setup is a piece of cake and they are super comfortable. For the sound, I read certain reviews complaining about the max volume. Take this into consideration, Battlefield 4 playing at max volume, you stand near a tank or heavy gun fire and your ears will want to explode of how loud and clear the sound is.

Guys, for $100 you get wireless, easy setup, great construction quality, 7.1 surround, custom profiles in the future, think about it. What more can you expect for $100. The other headsets in comparison and 2 to 3 times the price.

If you want something that is good and works and don't want to blow 300, trust me and just buy this. Other reviews that complain about certain things, obviously are not considering the price point and are comparing to headsets that are double and triple the price.

CUSTOMER REVIEW

Review

This game starts fun. The graphics are decent for the top-down style. Good lighting and water effects. Day and night cycle where night really amps up the challenge by making you watch your back constantly. A diverse crafting system. Decent skill tree options. Some of the voice acting is funny (I think intentionally) and unique.

I liked the survival aspects, which is the point of the game. You have to monitor your hunger, thirst, rest, and health. It's all manageable. You can collect empty bottles to store up water reserves, hunt animals and collect plants to cook at a campfire for food, collect herbs and create bandages to restore health, and secure a bunker to sleep in.

The combat is solid. The controls are easy. You craft increasingly strong weapons as you progress and different weapons have unique advantages. The machete cuts through plants and carves arrows from sticks, the bow is powerful and the arrows recoverable, the gun is rapid fire with plenty of ammo on the islands, the boomerang is very powerful but not as smooth and fast as the bow, etc. Melee combat animations are fluid with just enough variety--more than I expected from a game with this visual style.

While the gameplay mechanics are very solid, the storyline becomes more of a chore than fun unfortunately. It's a series of fetch quests that take you back and forth across the maps. Every time you pass one direction and clear the large amount of zombies, you have to then fight them all over again on the way back due to a fast respawn rate. This turned the game into a slow fetch quest grind for me and I lost interest about halfway through. If you make a wrong turn, it's even worse, because now you're fighting respawns over and over and you're not even in the right spot of the map.

You can't save the game except at story checkpoints and that can take a bit of time. Perhaps, if I could save at will, I could have tolerated the grind in smaller doses.

Maybe it's just me, but I had trouble with the quest early on where I had to collect meat from a deer. I kept wandering the map looking for deer and could never find them. When I finally would spot one, I would have to clear hordes of zombies to clear a path to it and these actions usually scared the deer away, leaving me to wander yet some more. The worst is when you're hunting deer at night and the extra zombies come to chase you down. You need to keep your flashlight on these nighttime zombies to keep them at bay, which makes focusing on the fleeting deer more difficult. The game says you can track the deer once you injure it by following blood on the ground. It's not that easy to do when the ground is already covered in excessive blood from slaying zombies. I eventually caught the deer and made the mistake of cooking the meat, which didn't complete the quest, so I had to repeat it all over again.

I really wanted to like this game. I actually told my friends how much I enjoyed it at the beginning. Then the grind just beat me down.

There is also inventory issues. Some of the crafting recipes call for 5 or 6 items. You're already stocking ammo, weapons, water, food, bandages, quest items, etc and the 25-item inventory fills fast. I don't really consider this a negative, because it more accurately reflects the reality of surviving on these islands. It might frustrate some players though. 25 slots is still considerably more than some games permit.

One small nitpick when it comes to resting: you aren't allowed to unless your rest meter is low enough. One time I was by a shelter at just over 50% fatigue. I couldn't rest before setting out on the next leg of my journey. That's just silly, because you can make adjustments on the other survival factors whenever you please.

As much as I would like to recommend this game for all its positive, interesting concepts, I just can't because the story is a major drag.
